Flyboarding

It’s a contraption that looks like it came from science fiction and catching the eyes of many motorists crossing the Hathaway Bridge Wednesday.

It’s called the flyboard. This new attraction can be found on the east end of Panama City Beach on the weekends, but today it was spotted in the Carl Grey Park area at the foot of the Hathaway Bridge.

The flyboard it hooks to a personal watercraft and the thrust from the jet ski propels the rider into the air.

As intimidating as the contraption may appear to be, operator Jeff Elkis says you don’t need to be an athlete to ride the flyboard, although extra leg strength does help. In addition, the amount of time it takes to learn to maneuver the flyboard may surprise you.

The flyboard is the first attraction of it’s kind in Bay County. Riders as young as 16 can give it a whirl.
